reballing

The process of reapplying the balls (protruding contacts) on a ball grid array.

Why this one

The name is literal: the balls are the solder spheres under the package, and they get stripped and replaced. Not the same as a reflow, which just reheats what is already there and often buys you weeks, not years.

In use

That inverter control board came back with the same fault, so it was never reballed properly the first time.
