250 entries in this trade.

abfarad

A unit of capacitance equal to one billion (10⁹) farads, used in the centimeter-gram-second system of units

ACRR

adjacent-channel rejection ratio; the resulting measurement of comparing signal strength with a similar signal on another frequency if they are on adjacent channels.

amplifier

An appliance or circuit that increases the strength of a weak electrical signal without changing the other characteristics of the signal.

anchor pylon

A pylon that forms the endpoint of a high-power transmission line and uses horizontal insulators, necessary when interfacing with other modes of power transmission and, due to the inflexibility of the conductors, when significantly altering the direction of the pylon chain.

battery pack

A set of batteries or battery cells connected together to deliver a certain voltage, capacity, or power density, often with an integrated battery management system.

BFC

big fucking capacitor - a high-voltage film capacitor suitable for use in power transmission, electric motor starters and applications involving electrical arcs

bringup

The process of checking newly-assembled printed circuit boards for defects and ensuring they run as expected.

BSC

Initialism of Basic Spacing between Centers: Used in integrated circuits to specify package mechanical dimensions. This is a theoretical true position dimension and has no tolerance.

calligraphic projection

A system for displaying or projecting an image composed of a beam of light or electrons directly tracing the image, as opposed to sweeping in raster order over the entire display surface.

card clash

The situation where two or more contactless payment cards are simultaneously detected by a card reader, possibly resulting in the incorrect card, or more than one card, being charged.

cathode ray tube

A vacuum tube that displays still or moving images (such as for a television), by controlling the direction of a cathode ray emitted towards the front of the tube. The front is coated by a layer of fluorescent material, so that it emits light when struck by the beam.

chicken bit

A bit on a chip that can be used to disable one of the features of the chip if it proves faulty or negatively impacts performance.

chip

A hybrid device mounted in a substrate, containing electronic circuitry and miniaturised mechanical, chemical or biochemical devices.

circulator

A passive electronic component with three or more ports, in which the ports can be accessed in such a way that when a signal is fed into any port it is transferred to the next port only

clock

An electrical signal that synchronizes timing among digital circuits of semiconductor chips or modules.

clock skew

A phenomenon in synchronous digital circuit systems in which the same sourced clock signal arrives at different components at different times due to gate or wire signal propagation delay.

cold cathode

A type of cathode that does not use a heating element to produce emission of cathode rays (electrons), beyond base thermionic emission (usually by field electron emission, secondary emission, or photoelectric emission).

crossatron

A high-power pulsed modulator device, a cold cathode gas-filled tube that combines useful features of thyratrons, vacuum tubes, and power semiconductor switches.
