Word of the Day 12 June 2026

convertible

Able to change from a closed to an open frame and back again.

Why this one

From Latin convertere, to turn about. In transport the word predates the soft top car: it describes any body that opens up, from drop side trailers to removable tilt frames on flatbeds, so the same deck can be loaded from the side or the top.

In use

Send the convertible trailer, that way we can drop the sides and get the crane over the top instead of shunting it in from the back.
