Word of the Day 4 August 2026

bifold

A door, window, shutter, or divider consisting of two equal panels hinged together so that it opens by folding the panels against each other.

Why this one

The word describes the motion rather than the object, which is why it applies to doors, windows and shutters alike.

In use

Closet's only 30 inches, so hang a bifold on it; a swing door would block half the hallway.
