gimmick capacitor
A capacitor consisting of two insulated wires twined together.
Why this one
When a few picofarads will do, you can make the part rather than buy it. The name is a cheerful admission that it is a trick.
In use
Oscillator was drifting, so I twisted a gimmick capacitor onto the tank coil and trimmed it back a turn at a time until it settled.
