die cutting
nounMetalworking
The general process of using a die to shear webs of low-strength materials.
Why this one
The tooling gives it its name, but the material sets it apart from blanking steel: web work like paper, foil, gasket sheet and label stock often runs on steel rule dies bedded in board rather than machined punch and die sets.
In use
That gasket sheet is soft enough we can just die cut it on the flatbed, no need to tie up the big press.
