To cut a saddle-shaped notch in (a log or other piece of wood) so it can fit together with other such logs or pieces; also, to fit (logs or other pieces of wood) together with this method.
Why this one
The verb comes straight from the shape left behind: a curved seat that cradles the log below it. In log building the cup faces down so water runs off rather than sitting in the joint.
In use
Saddle the top log to sit on that one, and keep the cup facing down or you'll be chasing rot in five years.
