roll-to-roll

adjectiveManufacturing

Involving the use of a continuous roll of substrate material that is fed through various processing steps such as printing, coating, or etching.

Why this one

The point is not the roll but never stopping: web tension and registration replace the pick and place of sheet fed work, which is why the same idea moved from newsprint and foil into flexible solar and printed electronics.

In use

If we run it roll-to-roll we hold registration to the mark, but every splice is a scrap window at the coater.
