blanket stitch
A strong stitch, similar to a buttonhole stitch, used to finish and reinforce the edges of blankets etc.
Why this one
It exists because a cut edge on thick wool will not hem neatly; the loop that runs along the border locks the raw edge under thread instead of folding it. Close kin to buttonhole stitch, worked with wider spacing.
In use
Don't try to turn a hem on that felt, it's too bulky; just run a blanket stitch round the edge and it'll hold.
