United Launch Alliance is a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin that has held the primary contract for launching US military and national security payloads into space since 2006. For aviation maintenance technicians, ULA matters because its rockets and ground support equipment create specialized work: technicians service Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) components, maintain launch pads, and perform pre-flight checks on avionics and propulsion systems that differ sharply from commercial aircraft work.

This is not general aerospace maintenance; every fastener and weld can require certification and historical records.
Because Atlas V and Delta IV are expendable vehicles (single-use), the quality and inspection standards differ from reusable spacecraft maintenance. A flaw cannot be corrected after launch. Ground maintenance therefore emphasizes non-destructive testing, pressure vessel certification, and engine run validation. Technicians perform extensive leak checks, insulation inspections, and electrical continuity testing before each launch.
