first-order hold

A mathematical model of the practical reconstruction of sampled signals that could be done by a conventional digital-to-analog converter and an analog circuit called an integrator.

floating-point unit

A microprocessor that performs floating-point arithmetic. In older models of computer the FPU was not integrated into the central processing unit, but rather as a coprocessor if included at all.

floppy disk

A removable disk used for storing digital data, measuring between 2 and 8 inches diagonally and storing between 80 KB and 240 MB.

Gunning transceiver logic

A kind of logic signaling used to drive electronic backplane buses, having a voltage swing between 0.4 and 1.2 volts, much lower than that used in TTL and CMOS logic, and symmetrical parallel resistive termination.

hard disk

One of a series of parallel magnetic recording disks in a drive unit, used for the recording and retrieval of digital information; used especially in personal computers.

hard drive

An electromechanical data storage device that stores and retrieves digital data using magnetic storage with one or more rigid, rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material.

hard-reset

To perform a forceful restart or reinitialization of a device, system, or process, typically by cutting power, or using a dedicated button.

HDR

Initialism of hard disk recorder or hard drive recorder (“a recording device that records onto a hard disk drive”).

highpass

Describing a filter, circuit, or system that rejects or attenuates a frequencies below a specified value while passing those above.

hot microphone

A microphone that is activated (but not powered) by the sound of the user's voice, allowing it to pick up speech without having to be manually turned on, while still rejecting background noise unaccompanied by speech.

iGPU

Initialism of integrated graphics processing unit, a graphics processing unit which has been built into another major system component, such as the CPU or motherboard, and typically utilises system RAM instead of having VRAM chips of its own.

interaxis

Pertaining to the perpendicularity (or deviation therefrom) of a set of resolver windings when another set of windings is excited.
