cycloconverter
A device that modifies alternating current to a lower frequency without converting it to direct current
Warum dieses Wort
Direct AC to AC: no DC link, so the thyristors commutate off the supply itself. The trade-off is a ceiling on output frequency, roughly a third of the input, which suits huge slow drives like mill and ore grinding motors.
In use
That mill runs off a cycloconverter, so don't go looking for a DC bus in there; there isn't one.
