Wort des Tages
4 July 2026
one-hour fuel
Vegetation with a high surface-to-mass ratio, able to dry out and become flammable within an hour of having been moist.
Warum dieses Wort
The name is a time lag, not a burn time: fine grass, needles and twigs under about a quarter inch respond to a change in humidity within roughly an hour, which is why a site can be safe at dawn and touchy by mid morning. Heavier classes are rated in tens, hundreds and thousands of hours.
In use
Grass verge is all one-hour fuel, so if the humidity drops off this afternoon we stop the grinding and post a watch.
