raster

A scanning pattern of parallel lines that form the display of an image projected on a cathode-ray tube of a television set or display screen.

Warum dieses Wort

From the Latin for rake, via German: the beam combs the screen in parallel furrows. On a CRT bench the raster is what you check first, because a picture fault and a scan fault look nothing alike.

In use

Got a raster on the tube but no picture, so leave the sweep circuits alone and start looking at the video stage.
