room and pillar
A variant of breast stoping in which the mined material is extracted across a horizontal plane, creating horizontal arrays of rooms and pillars.
Warum dieses Wort
The pillars are ore you agree not to take, so the method is a running argument between recovery and roof support; on plan it reads as a checkerboard, and later retreat work sometimes goes back for those pillars.
In use
It's all room and pillar on that seam, so figure on leaving a good third of it standing to hold the back up.
