cross-halving joint
nounZimmerei
A joint used for intermediate framework where half the thickness is removed from both pieces of timber where they cross.
Warum dieses Wort
The arithmetic is in the name: half from each piece so the crossing timbers finish flush at one thickness. Cut both housings snug and the joint resists twist on its own, before any screw or glue goes near it.
In use
Set out both faces off the same gauge line or your cross-halving joint will sit proud on one side.
